THREE DREAM PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN “2010 WNBA vs. USA BASKETBALL: THE STARS AT THE SUN”

ATLANTA, July 7, 2010 – Three Dream players will compete in the 2010 WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun event on July 10. Angel McCoughtry will compete for the USA Basketball Women’s National Team, and Sancho Lyttle andIziane Castro Marques will compete for the WNBA team. Dream Head Coach Marynell Meadors will serve as an assistant coach for the national team squad.

McCoughtry, last year’s WNBA Rookie of the Year, is averaging 19.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game this season. The 6-1 forward has scored in double figures every game for the Dream this season. She currently ranks third in the league in scoring and fourth in steals per game.

Lyttle, who earned her first All-Star appearance last year, is averaging a double-double with 14.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She currently ranks second in rebounding in the league and has recorded double-doubles in nine of 18 games.

Castro Marques, a 6-0 forward, is averaging a career-high 17.1 points in her eighth season in the WNBA. She has scored in double figures in 15 of 18 games for the Dream, including six 20+ point performances.

The game, which will showcase the world’s best female basketball players at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on July 10, will be televised by ESPN at 3:30 p.m. E.T. and the coverage will be presented by adidas.

The USA Basketball Women’s National Team is coached by Geno Auriemma, University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball Coach. His assistants are Doug Bruno (head coach, DePaul University), Jennifer Gillom (head coach, Los Angeles Sparks) and Marynell Meadors (head coach, Atlanta Dream).

Serving as head coach of the WNBA stars will be Brian Agler of the Seattle Storm, who earned the honor by virtue of his team having the best winning percentage through games of July 1. Nancy Darsch, the lead assistant under Agler with the Storm, will serve in the same capacity with the WNBA team during The Stars at the Sun.
